Which Philly sports team is your favorite?

The Eagles

How long have you been a Philly sports fan?

I have been a Philly sports fan all my life.

What/who influenced you to be a Philly fan?

I would have to say my Dad. We always talked sports in our house and enjoyed the game on TV. However, it was special when he would be able to take us to a game. I still remember going to Connie Mack Stadium for a Phillies game for the first time and walking up the ramp to the playing field it was awesome. In 1961 he had tickets to the Eagles game in Franklin Field and that started my devotion to the Eagles.

I was able to repay him when I took him to see the Phillies in the 1980 World Series at the Vet.

What does being a Philly sports fan mean to you?

It gives me a connection to my city and all that the teams represent. It does not matter if it’s the Phillies, Eagles, Flyers or Sixers I support them in any way I can.

How do you get pumped up for the games?

If it is an Eagles game I follow WIP radio during the week and they set the tone for excitement. Now I will usually go to the games with my daughters and grandson. We get to the stadium early and get pumped up with the excitement around the stadium.

Who are your all-time favorite players? Why are they your favorite?

Old School
Phillies – Robin Roberts – my favorite player growing up. He was dedicated and always finished what he started.
Eagles – Wilber Montgomery – Great running back and lead the Eagles to a Super Bowl. You can also include Dick Vermile he brought the Eagles back to respectability.

Flyers – Bernie Parent – and the Stanley Cup Flyers – They brought a championship to the town and still to this day are remembered in the community.
Sixers – Julius Erving – enough said

Today
Phillies – Larry Bowa, Chase Utley, Jimmy Rollins – they knew how to play the game the right way
Eagles – Carson Wentz – a great role model with a great work ethic and the building stone for this franchise

What’s your most memorable experience as a Philly sports fan?

I have been a season ticket holder to the Eagles for 56 years so there are quite a few memorable experiences.

Attending Eagles Giants – 1970 Franklin Field Monday Night Football when It was so cold you needed a little something to go with the tea my mother put in the thermos. I saw a fan fall from the top of the lower deck to the first row and walk away.

November 11, 1962 – Green Bay Packers in the snow at Franklin Field it was 49-0 at half-time – but I came back for the next game.

1980 Eagles NFL Championship game Vs Dallas Cowboys – Wilbur Montgomery leads a great game plan and
we defeat the Cowboys and go to our first Super Bowl.
The Andy Reid Era and the NFL Championships

I guess you can say I stayed with the Eagles during the good time and the not so good times. When it was bad you always thought that one day they would turn it around and we would have the respect the team deserved.

Oh, yea one more thing. Any game I went to with My Dad will always be memorable!
